SKF shared a century of leading global bearing technology, experience, technical know-how and product innovation, maintained since 1907, with visitors to the company's Electra Mining 2008 stand F31 in Hall 5.
Visitors were interested in discussing SKF's five broad product technology platforms i.e. bearings and units, seals, lubrication solutions, mechatronics and services. A skilled SKF team explained that the bearings and units platform, which incorporates power transmission, formed the core of SKF's business and has been showing rapid growth, with good growth in the other four platforms. Strategic asset management acquisitions put SKF firmly in the driving seat in the lubrication solutions, seals and mechatronics fields.
Headquartered in Sweden, SKF entered the South African market in 1914. The company grew rapidly and is entrenched as a leading service and knowledge engineering solutions provider on the African continent. The customer base includes mining, steel, paper, sugar, food and beverage, automotive, petrochemical, cement and power generation industries.
Electra Mining 2008 was also an excellent platform to provide information about SKF's recently launched bearing remanufacturing facility in Jet Park, a development that was perfectly timed to coincide with the expected increased demand for remanufactured bearings caused by the current energy crisis. "Mothballed" power stations are being activated and the majority of the equipment in these old Eskom plants will require mechanical and structural refurbishment. Industry across the board are facing increasing lead times for purchasing new production large size bearings (LSBs)and visitors to SKF's stand were in complete agreement that remanufacturing is the best possible solution to alleviate the problem. Remanufacturing is more cost effective as bearings can be removed during planned maintenance shut down periods, refurbished and returned on a pre-arranged date.
The SKF team introduced visitors to the company's comprehensive package, which focuses on complete tailor-made solutions for diverse industry and assured visitors that SKF had a countrywide branch network and appointed distributors in place and on standby to assist with service and advice.
