SKF introduces a new generation radial shaft seals designed to improve the reliability of both off-the-shelf gearboxes as well as standard helical and bevel helical gear units.
The new HMS5 and HMSA10 seals are manufactured in accordance with DIN 3760, using a specially formulated compound, which provides twice the working life of traditional NBR. The compound allows twice the working life of traditional NBR seals, and features a unique design of spring and sealing lip to produce the optimum radial load under all operating conditions.
The innovative seals provide highly reliable and durable sealing performance, preventing oil leakage over an extended period, while offering longer service life. Another important factor is the availability of the HMS5 and HMSA10 seals in a wide range of sizes, many of which can be supplied ex-stock.
Ideal for use in diverse gearbox applications across industry, including pulp and paper, metals, materials handling, food and beverage and mining and cement, the new radial shaft seals are constructed from an innovative acrylonitrile-butadiene (nitrile) rubber compound, compatible with the increasing variety of aggressive lubricants used in modern gearboxes. Utilisation of this unique seal compound also offers optimal pumping ability, to ensure that oil collecting around the seal is returned to the gearbox.
In addition, the new SKF radial shaft seals are designed with a unique sealing lip and flex section that assists with enabling an optimal radial load. This feature allows the seals to withstand dynamic run-out and shaft-to-bore-misalignment, further enhancing performance and service life.
SKF's new HMS5 and HMSA10 seals are also available in a fluoro-rubber compound for high temperature or otherwise extreme applications, and are supported by a full range of bearings. This approach allows users to source all products from a single, high quality manufacturer, and assists with reduction of stock levels.
SKF seals and bearings are manufactured to the highest standards, and can significantly extend operating life and decrease overall costs.
