Schaeffler to demo live remote condition monitoring of wind turbines at MAINTEC 2013

At this year's MAINTEC exhibition at the NEC (5-7 March 2013), Schaeffler UK (stand E1) will showcase its comprehensive range of products and services for the maintenance and condition monitoring of plant and machinery.

Visitors to the stand will also have the opportunity to see Schaeffler’s full range of online (fixed) condition monitoring systems, including a demonstration of the FAG WiPro s condition monitoring system for wind turbines. Via a ‘live’ remote link to a wind farm based in Scotland, visitors will be able to see in real time how the main rotor bearings, gearbox and generators on five wind turbines are being monitored on a 24/7 basis by Schaeffler.

The stand will also feature a demonstration of the Schaeffler Mounting Toolbox, a new online, interactive information guide on how to correctly install rolling bearings and the tools required to do this. As well as learning about which tools and fitting aids are required to install rolling bearings, users can also view short educational videos that demonstrate how these tools should be used in practise.

Visitors can also discuss their specific training requirements with experienced engineers. Schaeffler’s series of bearing and condition monitoring training courses have been further developed to provide customers with a more in depth understanding of rolling bearing technology and condition monitoring tools and techniques. Other attractions on the stand include a racing car driving simulator game, as well as a demonstration area on how to use Schaeffler’s various maintenance, fitting and condition monitoring tools and technologies.

MAINTEC 2013 will also see the launch of a brand new awards scheme for maintenance personnel. The MAINTEC 2013 Maintenance Person of the Year Awards, which includes two awards categories – Maintenance Professional of the Year and Maintenance Apprentice of the Year – recognise those who through the maintenance process have delivered real commercial benefit to their organisation, for example, in the form of increased output, reduced downtime or energy savings. Dr Steve Lacey, Engineering Manager at Schaeffler UK, is a member of the judging panel. Judging will take place prior to the show, with the awards presented to the winners during the show itself.
