On the 9th June 2012 some of the cycling world’s top stars lit up the heart of the British capital, competing in the IG London Nocturne night-time race. Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, the manufacturer of high-performance composite bearings, had the honour of sponsoring the race this year. Saint-Gobain has put together a video to showcase the superb cycling talent on display that evening.
Ian Stannard (Team Sky) snatched first place, followed closely by Kristian House (Rapha Condor Sharp) and Niklas Gustavsson (Team UK Youth) in third. Speaking afterwards, Ian said, “The Saint-Gobain Elite Criterium is an exciting race, drawing big names from around the globe and a phenomenal audience and I am proud to say I won this year”.
The IG London Nocturne has been held in Smithfield Market, London, since 2007. Professional teams competed over the floodlit short course to be crowned the world’s fastest street racer. The event was both a fun family evening out and a chance to see some high-octane cycling from international stars taking part in the Saint-Gobain Elite Criterium, including Matt Goss and Brett Lancaster.
Saint-Gobain supports bike racing not just through sponsorship of events like the IG London Nocturne, but also through dedication to the innovation of the small parts it supplies to bike manufacturers. The controlled friction abilities of its lightweight NORGLIDE® composite bearings ensures a smooth, comfortable ride and could mean the difference between first and second place.
