Jose Herrera Sorzano, director of business and exports of the Cuban Steel Industry (SIME), said in this capital that to target foreign markets they are now diversifying their productions and raising their quality.
In statements to ACN Herrera said that in the management meetings they have they systematically check how they are dealing with the possibility of exporting their products, which will have a favourable impact on the inflow of foreign exchange to the national economy.
Today it is intended that the main SIME export items are produced within a comprehensive and carefully planned system that will involve several industries in the country, where they complement each with what they do or provide.
Herrera said that at the present SIME is commercializing abroad castings, recyclable waste, boilers, technical and professional services, billets and corrugated bars, among others.
He said that it works to expand offerings in the field of mechanical products with high added value.
According to the official exports are increasing steadily, and exceed 20 percent annual growth.
In 2011 SIME established a Ministerial Commission for the Substitution of Imports, in order to analyze the strategic viable productions to boost local production instead of importing goods
That year, exports of goods and services in foreign currency exceeded 182 500 000 dollars, more than planned, but the failure of several lines caused SIME not to make some 36 million they had the potential to.
