Swedish multi-national SKF is a global leader in the design and manufacture of technologically advanced rotating and related equipment and has maintained a technological leadership position for more than 100 years.
Over the many decades SKF continued to invest in researching new technology and has developed into an internationally respected knowledge engineering company with a unique profile - a successful model built on the three pillars of global presence, experience gained by working in more then 40 industry sectors as well as the five technology platforms - Bearings and Units, Seals, Lubrication Systems, Mechatronics and Services.
SKF acquired Willy Vogel AG, an innovative and leading player in the world of lubrication technology, in 2004 and Vogel's knowledge and product portfolio have become an integral and valuable part of SKF products and services. "The next logical step was to consolidate the brands and from July 2009, SKF Vogel will be branded SKF Lubrication Systems", explains SKF's Lubrication Solutions Manager, Sarel Froneman. "All lubrication systems, engineered solutions and services will carry only the SKF brand instead of the previous dual brand, SKF VOGEL."
Froneman says that single branding benefits industry across all sectors as direct access to SKF's complete range of products, solutions and services will be easier than ever before, providing highly efficient service levels, from initial consultation to final delivery of effective solutions for diverse applications.
"The acquisition of Willy Vogel AG was strategically important to SKF's objective of maintaining a leading role in the five technology platforms", says Froneman and adds that it has enabled the group to strengthen its competitive position quite considerably across several technology areas internationally.
SKF services customers in diverse industries and applications, each of which requires different technical and commercial challenges. By gaining experience across these wide ranging sections of industries, SKF is able to develop specific products and services for specific industries and, by utilising knowledge gained from each industry, design and develop an effective solution for individual industry applications.
Froneman discusses a number of other benefits delivered by the consolidation of the SKF brand: "Customers enjoy easy access to one global provider of expertise for diverse industry applications, ranging from machine tools and off-highway vehicles to wind energy turbines and heavy industrial machinery, etc. In addition, customers also have access to combined offers with integrated design from SKF's technology platforms and consultancy to identify optimised lubrication solutions for specific requirements."
In conclusion Froneman says that SKF's sound strategy for meeting all challenges to assist and serve customers with SKF branded technical solutions internationally allows customers to confidently rely on SKF's standard lubrication systems, customised units and complete solutions integrating bearings, lubrication and sealing.
