SEW Eurodrive is now able to supply an industrial gear unit that offers more efficiency for mixing and agitating applications with the MC range of extended bearing distance (EBD) units.
The rugged construction is ideal for outdoor applications
The company has supplied the local sewage works in Nelspruit with a 55 kW EBD aerator drive. Raymond Obermeyer, SEW Eurodrive branch manager, commented that, “The reason the client chose us was our location, stockholding and the excellent service and back up that the client had received from our branch in the past. This is the first in a series of drives that we will be supplying to this customer.”
In process plants, large axial and radial forces occur at the agitator shaft during operation. Traditional designs solve this problem with separate external bearings that supplement the shaft bearings, an expensive solution.
SEW Eurodrive’s new EBD concept extends the bearing span across the low speed shaft and offers stronger bearings within the gear unit itself, which means that in many cases separate bearings are no longer required in the agitator or an over sizing of the gear unit can be avoided.
These high torque MC industrial gear units can be used for the reliable operation of mixers, agitators and surface aerators. The powerful and stiff bearings are also suitable for absorbing forces that occur in drives for wet, dry and hybrid cooling towers. The concept is supplemented by an optional dry-well seal, which reliably prevents oil leakage at the output shaft together with standardised mounting flanges.
This serves to offer a powerful solution that has output bearings with high load bearing capacity and a reinforced output shaft. A variety of output flange dimensions can be adapted to the gear unit using standard interfaces. One gear unit can be used for both foot and flange mounting.
The units can be supplied at short notice as the components are standard stock items and the company has an extensive network of assembly facilities situated throughout southern Africa.
