The Appropriate Solution for Each Application-Condition Monitoring Tools from FAG Industrial

Permanent monitoring of critical machines by means of vibration analysis offers maximum safety from unplanned downtime

HANNOVER/HERZOGENRATH, April 11, 2005 - Condition monitoring ensures the reliability and quality of machines and represents an important factor for their economic efficiency. Within Schaeffler Group Industrial, the specialist for any questions about this subject is FAG Industrial Services GmbH. Known in short as F'IS, the company deploys mainly vibration diagnosis - the most reliable method for the early identification of incipient machine damage. In this context F'IS offers a comprehensive product portfolio:

FAG Detector
The mobile Detector is a vibration measuring instrument and data collector rolled into one. The cost-effective device is ideally suitable for monitoring large production plants where long distances have to be covered. Machine vibration according to ISO 10816 can be monitored as well as temperatures or the condition of rolling bearings by means of the envelope method. As the device is easy to handle, it can also be used by personnel inexperienced in vibration diagnosis. The e-mail button serves to forward data to an external F'IS expert for further analysis.

FAG Bearing Analyser
The Bearing Analyser is a multichannel vibration analysis tool. It is suitable for early and reliable damage diagnosis as well as troubleshooting in all kinds of machines. The signals measured by the system are transmitted to a laptop and analyzed by the software. In addition, the Bearing Analyser offers the possibility of continuous data recording. In conjunction with the integrated bearing database, the automatic diagnosis system recognizes typical machine damage patterns in the vibration signal and triggers an alarm via the builtin traffic light function.

FAG Easy Check Series
The cost-effective and easy-to-handle devices of the Easy Check series have been designed for monitoring the vibration and temperatures of machines with constant operating conditions, such as pumps, fans etc. Machine vibration according to ISO 10816 is monitored as well as temperatures or the condition of rolling bearings with the envelope method. The Easy Check is a battery-powered standalone device that is connected to the machine. In case of problems, the maintenance personnel are alerted by LEDs. In comparison the Easy Check Online is a solution with an external power supply. Alarm outputs offer the option of displaying threatening conditions. This enables the monitoring of locations that are difficult to access.

FAG DTECT X1
The DTECT X1 enables early damage detection by frequency-selective vibration monitoring with individually adjustable frequency bands. The basic model is available as a 2-channel version as well as a 4-channel or 8-channel version with external multiplexer. In addition process parameters such as speed, temperature, torque and pressure can be recorded. The signal registered by the sensor is broken up into its frequency components. This permits the monitoring of amplitudes within defined, narrow frequency bands for previously specified threshold values and triggering of an alarm if these values are exceeded. Machines all over the world can thus be monitored by means of advanced telecommunication without requiring the presence of a diagnosis expert on site.

FAG Wind Turbine Protection - WiPro
WiPro is an online monitoring system designed especially for use in wind turbines. Certified by the AZT (Allianz Center for Technology), the WiPro system permits monitoring of the entire drive train (main bearings, gear unit, clutch, generator) as well as vibration effects of tower and rotor blades. The system is fitted with a signal processor and evaluates all measured signals on site. Operators using WiPro are always informed about the condition of the turbine. This means a high degree of investment security and active machine protection.

FAG Screen Saver
The Screen Saver has been designed especially for monitoring vibrating screens. Vibrating screens or vibrating conveyors are often key components in processing plants so that their permanent functioning is extremely important. Thanks to special filter technology, the Screen Saver can differentiate between process-induced vibration and vibration resulting from damaged components. The operating status can be read at the traffic light display and can also be transmitted to the central machine control station. The data stored by the system can in addition be transmitted to a diagnosis center for remote monitoring.

FAG VibroCheck
The online monitoring system VibroCheck is ideal wherever many measurement points have to be monitored permanently, e.g. in rolling mills, paper factories or power stations. Up to 2048 sensors can be attached to the system. In addition to vibration signals, parameters such as temperature, power, pressure, torque etc. can be recorded. The data are accessible to experts at other locations for remote diagnosis. Owing to the early identification of incipient damage it is possible to make optimum use of planned shutdowns and drastically reduce downtime.

FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F'IS)
Since the beginning of 2001, FAG Kugelfischer AG & Co. oHG, a member of the Schaeffler Group, has been focusing its service business in FAG Industrial Services GmbH (F'IS), headquartered at Herzogenrath near Aachen. As an independent company, F'IS offers its maintenance services and service products on a manufacturer-neutral basis, so helping customers to save maintenance costs, optimize machine availability and avoid unexpected machine downtime.
