NSK has now been operating in Europe for exactly 50 years.
In addition to a wide range of standard bearings, the company offers numerous series which cater for extremely demanding requirements, such as enhanced accuracy and a long service life.
The Japanese bearing manufacturer
NSK established its first European sales office in Düsseldorf (Germany) 50 years ago. Now, the neighbouring town of Ratingen is home to the company’s European headquarters and NSK has an impressive footprint in Europe with five production sites in Germany, the UK and Poland, plus its European Technology Centre (ETC) in Ratingen. NSK Europe has approximately 3,300 employees, who generated sales of #8364;983 million in the 2011/2012 financial year.
High-precision bearings for machine tools
There have been a number of milestones in the development of NSK Europe. These include the establishment of the first production plant in Peterlee (UK) in 1976 and the takeover of the British UPI Group – including the well-known bearing manufacturer RHP – in 1990. RHP-branded high-precision bearings are used in a range of applications, including leading European manufacturers’ machine tools. They have an extremely long life, even in the demanding operating conditions of the metalworking industry, where they are subject to considerable loads and high speeds and must also run extremely accurately and quietly. By acquiring RHP, which traditionally has had a very strong market position, NSK strengthened its high-precision bearings segment. New products recently launched by this division include the BSBD bearing units. These feature two angular-contact ball bearings, each with a contact angle of 60°, which are preloaded against each other and can absorb very high radial and axial loads in both directions.
Extensive engineering expertise
NSK’s many specialist products include the HPS range. Available in 42 different sizes, these double-row, self-aligning spherical roller bearings can absorb extremely high radial and axial loads. Deep-groove ball bearings, angular-contact ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings are all due to be added to the NSKHPS series. The European Technology Centre in Ratingen has state-of-the-art testing facilities, enabling NSK to perform comprehensive analyses of prototypes and series-produced components. As a flexible manufacturer with a focus on engineering, NSK also produces numerous bespoke components for specific clients. End-users of bearings can also benefit from the company’s engineering expertise: NSK offers on-site advice with its AIP programme.
