The Technical Pocket Guide from Schaeffler has been a popular standard work among employees in numerous technical disciplines for over 25 years. Schaeffler will now be presenting a completely revised edition of its classic publication to coincide with the Hannover Messe 2013. The corresponding app, which has been available for Apple and Android since 2011, will also be updated at the same time. The new version will be available free of charge at http://apps.schaeffler.de/ from April 8, 2013 onwards, and the printed version can be ordered from http://www.schaeffler.de/ -> Mediathek -> Publikationen. In addition, an English-language version is planned to be published in the fall, after which the Pocket Guide will also be available in Chinese.
The Technical Pocket Guide comprises almost 640 pages and deals with mathematics, physics, and technical statistics, as well as the specialist areas of mechanics and acoustics, hydraulics and pneumatics, and construction materials and elements. The mechatronics topic block is new and has been included for the first time. The contents of the Technical Pocket Guide are displayed in a compact manner, so even complicated information is explained concisely and the book bridges the gap between comprehensive textbook and purely tabular work. Over 750,000 copies have been distributed since its initial publication – a confirmation of the targeted focus on fast, practical usability that has made it a proven companion in the day-to-day work of technicians and engineers, apprentices, and students of technical and scientific disciplines.
The new edition of the Schaeffler Technical Pocket Guide makes a convincing case thanks to its user-friendly layout. The 14-chapter publication features color-coded chapters, numerous diagrams and drawings, and well-structured texts, tables, and formulae that allow the reader to quickly find what he or she is looking for. The project had specialist support from Prof. Dr.-Ing. Harald Meerkamm, former head of the Chair for Engineering Design at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. His technical and didactical experience made it possible for the entire content of the Technical Pocket Guide to be revised and updated with the utmost care.
Schaeffler also offers the Technical Pocket Guide as an App, thus providing a mobile reference book that, in addition to the content of the printed version, is also equipped with useful features such as search and bookmark functions, as well as information about the company. A sharing function enables specific text passages to be disseminated via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
