Best known for its metal-polymer offerings, GGB Bearing Technology (formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings) also manufactures solid polymer bearings, which are being used successfully in hundreds of applications.
Consisting of nine different materials, the company’s EP™ series of precision injection-molded bearings are made of a variety of high performance engineering resins with the addition of solid lubricants and reinforcing fibers. The lightweight, corrosion-resistant bearings provide low friction and excellent wear resistance across a wide range of both dry and lubricated operating conditions. They also exhibit high dimensional stability, compressive strength and creep resistance, as well as low thermal expansion and good thermal conductivity.
Applications
The bearings can be found in many different types of equipment, including agricultural, chemical processing, conveyors, electronics assembly, food processing, materials handling, medical, office, packaging, sports and recreation, textile and transportation. They are also used in apparatus engineering, domestic appliances, awnings and blinds, industrial fittings, slot machines and valves.
In addition EP73™, a PAI-based material modified with graphite and PTFE, is used in automotive applications such as automatic gears, pumps, sealing for turbo compressors, piston rings and valve seats, as well as industrial applications such as continuous ovens and ovens for drying coatings. The aerospace industry uses this material to replace aluminum and metal alloys for weight savings in applications such as turbojet engine compressor blades.
Technical Support
GGB in Germany is a Center of Excellence for solid polymer bearing technology. Offering extensive experience and technical expertise, the company works closely with customers to develop tribologically optimized, application-specific bearing solutions. State-of-the-art, in-house testing capabilities allow for experimentation, making it possible to evaluate the bearing materials and fine-tune application parameters.
In addition to assisting in the selection of the most suitable material for an application and developing the design of the overall system, GGB can provide prototypes made of semi-finished material and injection-molded parts for serial production.
Because the parts are injection-molded, there are virtually no limits in terms of shape, size and special features, including notches, grooves, snap-fit, halfshell and overmolded.
Besides cylindrical bearings, flanged bearings and thrust washers, the materials can be processed into special forms, such as double-flanged bushes, bushes with conical surfaces, spherical bearings and bearings with extremely thin wall thicknesses and close tolerances. The materials also can be formed into crossheads, guide shoes, and slide inlays.
The standard product range of cylindrical, flanged bearings and thrust washers is available from stock . For more information contact germany@ggbearings.com.
