EDWERN-HEIM Boerdery - Loyalty at its Best of SKF

For many years Edwern-Heim Boerdery, one of the most successful vegetable farms in the Western Cape, has been a loyal client of West Cape Bearing and Transmission, a SKF Agriculture Distributor in the Western Cape.

As a result, West Cape Bearing and Transmission have built a respectable understanding of the challenges faced by "Oom Jan", the farm's maintenance manager, who is responsible for the upkeep of the machinery on the farm. At 73 years of age, he comes with vast knowledge and experience in his field and there is little one can still teach this maintenance stalwart.

Products that are cultivated from the farm include carrots, potatoes, beetroot and spinach, amongst many others. "Oom Jan's" biggest challenge, as with any farmer in this region, involves maintaining machinery that operates in extremely harsh sandy and dusty conditions. The loss of operation time whilst regularly changing bearings that have been damaged by sand and dust is a critical issue for any farmer.

When West Cape Bearing and Transmission, a newly appointed SKF Agriculture Distributor in the Western Cape, was introduced to SKF's maintenance free Yelag and Agri Hub range, with their 5-lip seals which offer the inner bearing extra protection, they knew at once that they had found a much sought-after solution for "Oom Jan." Upon the advice from West Cape Bearing and Transmission, "Oom Jan" fitted SKF Yelag bearings to one of their potato harvesters. It didn't take long for "Oom Jan" to realize he had a quality product and went about systematically making the necessary changes to all the harvesters.

Harvesters that had needed to have new bearings fitted up to three times a season could now operate, with the SKF product, through the season without changing any bearing. Oom Jan explained "Surprisingly, these are bearings that work in the sand. This upgrade means less down-time and greater productivity for myself and my colleagues. I make fewer visits to West Cape Bearing and Transmission and I occasionally have time for a cup of coffee with the team."

In conclusion, Philip Fouche from West Cape Bearing and Transmission says, "We have yet another satisfied customer, which is a priority for continued loyalty. With thanks to our loyal ambassador of Yelag, our reputation in the industry has been further enhanced."
