For the second time, PT SKF Indonesia held an event called the SKF Technology Day 2011 (SKF Tech-Day). This event ran for two days with the first day being conducted at Astra Daihatsu Motor Head Office, Sunter, Jakarta, on October 6th and second day at Astra Otoparts Pegangsaan, Jakarta on October 7th, 2011. This event was aimed to share SKF vision: "To Equip the World with SKF Knowledge" with its five platforms namely: Bearings and unit, Seals, Lubrication, Mechatronics and Services" and also to be "Innovative Partner for Sustainable Solutions".
While the first Tech Day in December 2009 was intended for two-wheeler customers, the 2011 Tech Day focused on four-wheeler customers in Indonesia as its market has been growing at high pace and is expected to reach 850 thousand units in 2011 to which SKF see good opportunity to grow the business through this segment.
Through presentations and product exhibits, SKF offered solutions which are related to wheel-end weight and friction reduction; new car segments; transmission technology and efficiency; engine down sizing and boosting; and engine management, enabling to address challenges facing car manufacturers that centers on fuel efficiency, CO2 reduction and total cost ownership.
The first Tech Day, which theme was "Engineering Partner for Future Development", was opened by Bono Rumbiono, President Director of SKF Indonesia, attended by more than 90 employees of Astra Daihatsu Motor.
"This is a great event, I hope SKF will hold this event every year so that we can enhance our relationship for near future. A great innovation for Indonesia Automotive", said one of Astra Daihatsu employee.
Franco Ferro, PTE & TW Business Unit Director of Automotive Division closed the event by giving summary presentation: "Win together through cost competitiveness and value creation", said Franco.
The theme for 2nd day was "Driving for The Sustainable Future". The event was opened by Franco Ferro, attended by more than 60 guests of Astra Otoparts Groups, Denso, Toyota, Nissan, Isuzu, Hino, Honda, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, GM, Musashi, Chemco, Hyundai, etc.
Presentations and exhibitions were made by SKF colleagues from different places. First presentation was SKF Automotive by Torsten Nordgren (Director Automotive Division Asia), the second was Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Cars by Damiano Bragie (Head of Powertrain & Electrical Sales Asia) and Marcello Rossi (Senior Application Engineer of SKF Automotive Division, Italy), and the third was Innovative & Sustainable Solutions in the Truck Segment by Gary Ding (Key Account Manager, Truck, SKF China).
The exhibition featured EV and Mechatronics, Transmission, Engine and Clutch, Car Corner, Suspension and Steering, and Trucks. This event was also supported by Toshiki Watanabe and Takuji Akiyama from SKF Japan, and also Monique Turner from SKF Singapore.
Many participants showed their high interests in the exhibition, especially for Low Weight Hub Bearing and Low Friction Bearing.
"I am so interested with Low Friction Bearing, it is a new technology, and I look forward to see other SKF's innovation such as bearing for low fuel consumption with low cost", said Arsianti.
Participants from Honda (car) and Nissan expressed their wish that SKF could hold the same events at their factories in the near future. SKF Indonesia plans to hold this event in more regular basis in order to share SKF knowledge with customers and to be an innovative partner for future development.
