GSM Power Transmissions UK Ltd provide winch solutions working very closely with winch manufacturers –GSM Power Transmissions UK LTD have supplied compact planetary gearboxes which fit inside the winch drum and provides the necessary torque and speed to deliver the line speed required at the designated line pull.
The Planetary gearbox offers winch manufacturers so much flexibility within their design. Because of the modular design –ratios from 3:1 to 15,000:1 are possible. The compactness is a feature due to the torque being transmitted from the sun-pinion to the planet carrier via 3 and sometimes up to 5 points of contact with the planet gears all encompassed within a planet ring. Each planet gear is mounted on needle roller bearings which make for an extremely efficient gearbox.
Typically planetary gearboxes can be 98% efficient per stage of reduction and on a 3stage reduction the ratio achieved can be approximately 350:1 and still 94% efficient. The planetary gearbox also employs the use of taper roller bearings at the low speed output shaft which have a capacity to cater for high radial loads associated with lifting loads by winches. GSM Power Transmissions UK Ltd is part of the STM Team group of companies which incorporates GSM SPA –who have been manufacturing gearboxes since 1966 in Bologna , Italy.
For many years GSM have manufactured gearboxes which have been distributed by gearbox companies in the UK and around the World under their own livery. In 2010 GSM Power Transmissions UK Ltd was conceived to provide the UK market with a direct opportunity to deal with GSM. “The product range available to the power transmission market is one of the largest, most comprehensive available and allows the OEM customer to source direct from one outlet” –comments Jon Snaith Director of GSM Power Transmission UK Ltd. The range includes Bevel Helical and Parallel Helical gearboxes with ratios from 1.11:1 to 801:1, output torques up to 692,000Nm and input powers from 0.72Kw to 9,308Kw. Outputs available include single and double solid shaft-keyed, splined and hollow shaft versions.
Casings are available as standard in both Cast Iron and Steel and gearboxes can be supplied to meet Atex Specification if required. The Industrial Planetary Gearbox range has a large torque range available with innovative casing and output configurations available like foot mounted, flange mounted , in-line or right-angle and the unique options for shaft mounted gearboxes like the shrink disc version and female keyed shaft version where the cost of splining the driven shaft is illuminated from the decision making process. High radial load capacity versions of each gearbox torque size are manufactured for applications like winches and slew drives - so that the OEM manufacturer gets a competitive and compact solution to work with.
Jon Snaith adds “We have 3 versions of right-angle planetary – the conventional planetary gears with spiral bevel, planetary gears with bevel helical and planetary gears with a worm/wheel input. All these options allow the best selection for the application to be carried out and give the OEM customer complete peace of mind”.
