Technology and the environment are interrelated for sustainability of human life. Humans need technology in their life, but sometimes technology gives a negative impact for the environment. The Best solution is to develop Environmentally-friendly technology or people called it as Green Technology.
Bandung Institute of Technology supported by SKF as main sponsor held Mechanical Festival 2011. This event aims to facilitate students' potential for green technology development and public awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability . Mechanical Festival consists of Pre-Event and Main Event. Pre-Event was held on September 2010 until January 2011 with various activities like Iftar Together and Sahur on The Road, Road Show Eco-Campus, Bicylce Carnaval, and Workshop of Tune Up Motorcycle. The Main Event took place for three days on Februari 4, 5 and 6 with various activities like Engine Tune Up, Free Emissions Testing, and "Reduce Friction - Save Energy" Seminar from SKF, which the speakers are Boy Ramadhan from SKF Indonesia and Angelina Lumentah from Skefindo Primatama.
Apart from Seminar, there ware also Green Technology Expo, which many national companies based technological innovation show their environment-friendly products. The main event of Mechanical Festival 2011 is National Innovation Contest which followed various University around Indonesia, furthermore there were quiz competitions and Physic Law Championship for Senior High School Student.
After mock exhibition for two days, team from ITB appeared as the winner of National Innovation Contest. This team made a generating electricity using sea wave power for coastal communities. The Second place went to the team from Surabaya Institute Technology with Fuzzy logic lights to save electricity, while the third place went to the team from Gadjah Mada University with valve tap system on faucet to improve water efficiency.
SKF Indonesia always supports Mechanical Festival especially National Innovation Contest because SKF believe that innovation is the heart of being knowledge engineering company.
