NSK Ltd. (NSK; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Norio Otsuka) announced today that it has received the Outstanding Technical Paper Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan (JSAE) for a research paper entitled, “Temperature Rise Analysis in Traction Contact Areas of Toroidal CVTs.” The research was conducted jointly with Technical University of Munich. An award ceremony was held on May 20 at the venue of the Automotive Engineering Exposition held at Pacifico Yokohama.
Outline of the Award
Award received: The 60th Outstanding Technical Paper Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan
Technical paper title: “Temperature Rise Analysis in Traction Contact Areas of Toroidal CVTs”
Recipients: Shinji Miyata, NSK Ltd.
Bernd-Robert Hoehn, Technical University of Munich
Klaus Michaelis, Technical University of Munich
Oliver Kreil, Technical University of Munich
Outline
With the continuing demand for improved fuel efficiency in cars, there is a corresponding need for greater transmission efficiency in the CVTs of large motor vehicles. The paper aimed to contribute to further improvements in the fuel efficiency of vehicles by presenting a formula for calculating temperature increases in CVTs and validating the formula with empirical data, thereby helping to forecast the transmission efficiency of toroidal CVTs more accurately.
Meanwhile, at the NSK booth in the Automotive Engineering Exposition, NSK presented CVT technologies that are expected to improve fuel efficiency substantially in the future.
Looking to the future, NSK will continue to pursue products and services of the highest quality, offering greater reliability and further reductions in energy loss. As a product manufacturer, NSK is working to achieve a sustainable society that is both affluent and preserves the global environment.
About the JSAE Awards
