PBC Linears Announces Switch from Steel to Aluminum

PBC Linear announced a material change in the following product line: Simplicity Flange Mount Die Sets (SDS, DDS, & PAC Series).

Due to rising material costs, PBC made the decision to switch manufacturing of the Flange Mount Die Set housings from steel to aluminum to prevent further increases in prices to customers. Currently, PBC is manufacturing the bearings in both steel and aluminum. Steel is considered the premium product, but prices have increased. Effective January 1, 2011, PBC will cease mass production of the steel version. The aluminum material will be the company’s standard bearing.

This is a material change only. There is no change in the form, fit, or function of the bearing. If there are any technical questions pertaining to the change, please feel free to contact our Application Engineers, Dave Walden or Dave Humblet (800-962-8979 or application.engineering@pbclinear.com).

We understand that some customers may prefer the steel over the aluminum; however, after January 1, 2011 steel will be considered a custom bearing. You will have to consult the factory for price and lead time.

Until January 1, 2011, please use the new part numbering system created to differentiate the two materials. Please see below.

Old Part Number Aluminum Steel Catalog Page
SDSXX SDSZXX SDSTXX 15
DDSXX DDSZXX DDSTXX 15
PACXXX PACZXXX PACTXXX 16

To the old part numbers, we have added a new letter, “T” or “Z”, to distinguish between the steel and aluminum. “T” represents steel (i.e. PACT750), and “Z” represents aluminum (i.e. SDSZ16). Until the effective date, please use the steel specified part numbers to place all Flange Mount Die Set orders.

If there are any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Customer Service or Application Engineering at 800-962-8979 or application.engineering@pbclinear.com.
