A Japanese manufacturer plans to close its Bellefontaine factory in July, eliminating 290 jobs.

Daido Metal Bellefontaine LLC said in a filing this week with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that its plant on Greenwood Street in the northwest Ohio city will shut July 1. The company is part of Japan’s Daido Metal Co. Ltd., which employs nearly 2,000 workers.

The company makes bearings and other products for the automobile and marine industries.

A Daido representative in Bellefontaine couldn’t be immediately reached for comment on the closing, which the company didn’t detail in the notice it filed with the state.

Daido also has operations in Arlington Heights, Ill., near Chicago.
