Less noise thanks to improved surfaces
All the geometrical parameters of the new FAG bearing’s inner ring, outer ring and rolling elements have been refined: The improved surface structures of the raceways and balls reduce noise development by 50 percent. This means that the Generation C deep groove ball bearing is setting new standards in terms of noise and quiet running.
Less friction increases efficiency
Osculation between the balls and rings has been optimized in order to minimize friction. In combination with improved surface quality, the design measures reduce friction by up to 35 percent compared with the previous deep groove ball bearing. For the customer this means lower energy consumption and thus lower energy costs. In addition, the reduced frictional torque and lower heat generation make the bearing suitable for higher speeds.
More effective seal ensures longer life
The innovative HRS seal ensures maximum reliability. Its redesigned lip geometry is optimally adjusted to the recess on the bearing inner ring. In this way, the seal offers more effective protection against loss or contamination of grease. This results in longer grease life and increases the life of the entire bearing. Moreover, venting grooves improve the bearing’s run-in behavior. In addition to the HRS seal, the bearing shield was redesigned too. The recesses on the bearing rings and the shield geometry are functionally adjusted to each other in such a way that the sealing efficiency is improved and grease life is increased.
Cage enhances rigidity and speeds
The improved guidance of the rolling elements also contributes to higher performance of the new FAG deep groove ball bearing. The new riveted steel cage, which replaces the previous steel prong-type cage, offers higher rigidity and is therefore also suited for higher speeds. In addition, the riveted steel cage reduces noise development and makes the bearing less sensitive to shock loads.
Conclusion: quiet and efficient
FAG’s new Generation C deep groove ball bearing operates more quietly and efficiently, it is more reliable and offers better performance than its predecessor. Thanks to its 50-percent reduced noise level, this bearing is in particular suited for applications where low noise and smooth operation play an important role, for example in electrical motors for the consumer goods industry. In addition, the 35-percent reduction in friction leads to significantly lower energy consumption which positively impacts operating costs and the energy balance. Thus the new FAG deep groove ball bearing enables the development of even more efficient machines, and increases the efficiency of applications while ensuring lower overall costs at the same time.
The dimensions of the new FAG deep groove ball bearings correspond to the previous bearing types. They are standardized to DIN and replace conventional used bearings without any problem.

FAG has been pioneering innovations for ball bearings and other rolling bearing types for 125 years. Friedrich Fischer designed the ball grinding machine in Schweinfurt in 1883.
