At this year’s HUSUM WindEnergy, FAG Industrial Services (F’IS) is presenting a wide range of innovative products and services concerning the maintenance and repair of wind energy installations from September 9-13, 2008. At the booth of Schaeffler Group Industrial (Hall 4, Booth E10), the company is introducing novel services, including endoscopy, torque measurement and thermography, in addition to proven product and service solutions.
One exhibition highlight will be the FAG ProCheck online condition monitoring system. This system can detect damage to wind turbines at an early stage and thus helps to prevent serious consequential damage.
Another important focus is on the new services available, including endoscopy, torque measurement and thermography: Endoscopy represents a valuable supplement to vibration monitoring since it enables a more detailed statement on the extent of damage of a defective component. This makes it easier to decide if and when the component should be replaced. Torque measurement is performed to visualize excessively high loads acting, for example, on the shafts or bearings. Unplanned shutdowns due to the failure of a machine component can be effectively prevented in this way. Thermography is used to detect heat development by means of a high-resolution infrared camera. This method enables the preselection of measuring points for subsequent vibration analysis. It is also suitable for determining whether a bearing is lubricated with an unsuitable lubricant, with too little lubricant, and whether a bearing was correctly mounted.
The high quality of the F’IS products and services has already been proved in numerous applications. On an Australian wind farm, for example, 49 FAG WiPro units were installed in 2006. On-site monitoring is provided by a team of highly capable specialists. This ensures extensive support for the customer. Convinced of the high quality of F’IS products and services, the customer extended his monitoring system by another 49 units in 2008. Many other customers in the wind energy sector all over the world rely on Schaeffler Group Industrial’s comprehensive range on offer.
