Longest Running Statistical Series in Manufacturing
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the primary source of statistical information on the North American steel industry, announced the release of its 2007 Annual Statistical Report (ASR) on June 2. The 126-page book, the most comprehensive reference of its kind for the American steel industry, provides statistical data for the United States steel industry plus a variety of selected statistical data on the Canadian, Mexican and world steel industries. The report is the longest running statistical publication series in all of manufacturing, dating back to 1868. The ASR has been published without interruption since 1914.
The ASR has proven to be an indispensable reference tool for the industry, media, academia, steel analysts and others who are interested in tracking steel industry trends. The most popular charts, in terms of inquiries received by the Institute, include Selected Statistical Highlights on shipments, apparent supply, imports, employment and raw steel data over a 10-year period; Selected Financial Highlights on income and cash flow data; Shipments by Products and Markets over a 10-year period; Raw Steel Production (state distribution and capability utilization); and imports and exports data.
NAFTA charts, which are included as part of a series for the seventh consecutive year, were compiled from U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census, Statistics Canada and CANACERO data. The charts show raw steel production, steel mill product shipments, and imports and exports data.
AISI’s 2007 Annual Statistical Report, in its ninth year on CD as a PDF file, is also available by e-mail or hard copy. To purchase it online ($400 for a hard copy or $350 for an electronic version) visit www.steelfacts.com. To order it over the phone, call 412.860.5342.
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI is comprised of 31 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 138 associate and affiliate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent more than 75 percent of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.
