GGB To Build Bearing Plant in India

GGB (formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings, a division of EnPro Industries, Inc.) has announced plans to spend up to $3 million constructing a bearing manufacturing plant in India.

The move is GGB's latest in a long-term program to build its market presence in the rapidly expanding Indian market.

In 2004, GGB opened a location in New Delhi, India, the first step in that effort. While GGB had operations in over a dozen countries, it was not active in India. By 2005, the Indian business had sales of almost $2.5 million.

Inaugurating that operation, Joe Fults, GGB's VP of Business Development, said, "India has been a prime target for us for some time. As we continue our global expansion, we felt it was imperative to have a physical presence in this important market."

Formerly part of Goodrich, GGB is the world's largest manufacturer of prelubricated and self-lubricating metal-polymer plain bearings. GGB has production facilities in the United States, Germany, France, Slovakia and Brazil, along with operating units in two dozen other countries.

The new plant will reportedly focus on supplying bearings to India's fast-growing auto and truck manufacturering sector.
