Timken Approved as Source to Repair Main Bearings for General Electric CF34-3 Engine

The Timken Company today announced that its aerospace aftermarket solutions subsidiary, Bearing Inspection, Inc., has been named by Cincinnati-based GE Aircraft Engines as an approved source for the repair of bearings for the CF34-3 aircraft engine. The approval covers all main-line bearings for the CF34-3 engine, which is installed on Bombardier Challenger business jets and CRJ100/200 regional jets. Approximately 3,000 of these engines are in service today.

The GE approval specifically applies to all Level 1 and Level 2 bearing refurbishment and repair. This includes cleaning, inspection, lubrication, replacement of rolling elements, plating of components and superfinishing of bearing raceway surfaces.

"The CF34-3 approval represents another step forward in the continuing expansion of the scope of our aerospace reconditioning programs as we deliver increased value to global customers," said Drew Baker, general manager in Timken's aerospace aftermarket group. "Airlines and engine overhaul shops will clearly benefit from Timken's commitment to the aerospace aftermarket in enhancing power transmission performance through innovative friction management technologies and cradle-to-grave program support."

All bearing repairs on the CF34-3 engine will be performed at Timken's Los Alamitos, Calif., facility, an FAA approved repair station.

Following its acquisition in 2005, Bearing Inspection, Inc., became part of the Timken aerospace aftermarket solutions group, which is a leading supplier of bearing inspection and reconditioning services, as well as direct replacement parts for gas turbine engines, components and systems used in the aviation industry. With principal facilities in Los Alamitos, Calif., and Gilbert, Ariz., Timken continues to expand its in-house manufacturing and repair capabilities, while increasing the scope of its aircraft platform support.
