Timken Co. (NYSE: TKR) has received a $6 million order from a Tokyo-based drilling tool manufacturer and distributor.

The Canton-based maker of steel and ball bearings will supply Julong PetroMaterials Inc. with seamless tubes for drill collars, which are the heavy tubular connectors between a drill bit and a drill pipe.

"Drill collars do the dirty work in a drill string where the environments are really harsh, and few mills are able to produce these long tubes needed for this application,” said Jeff Hoerr, director of international alloy steel sales and marketing for Timken in China, in a statement.

A message left at Timken was not immediately returned.
