October 9, Reuters news quoted senior officials as saying that NATO has plans to defend Turkey against Syria attack, and, if Turkey is to make such requests for assistance, NATO will respond.
 
A senior U.S. Defense Department officials said that if Turkey requests for assistance, NATO will very likely take action. "NATO must hear the request of Turkey, and the decision should provide the kind of assistance." The official said, "We are in contact with Turkey, in order to ensure that Turkey need help, we were able to do everything we can."
 
Reported that, last week, the Syrian cross-border shelling of a border town in Turkey, killing five people killed. In a subsequent emergency meeting of NATO ambassadors expressed support for Turkey.
