U.S. President Barack Obama nominated deputy commander of the U.S. Marine Corps in the 10th, four-star General Joseph Dunford succeed John Allen as the next commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and chief of NATO in Afghanistan, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) commander.
Obama said in a statement on the same day, his of Dunford experience, and confidence in the strategic leadership and vision, if the nomination was confirmed by the Senate, I believe that he will lead the U.S. troops in Afghanistan to complete the transfer of security responsibilities to the Afghan security forces by the end of 2014 tasks, helping to end the war in Afghanistan.
Obama also nominated the same day in July 2011, Allen served as the commander of U.S. troops in Afghanistan as NATO's highest military officer - Supreme Allied Commander Europe Chief U.S. European Command, is expected next spring he took office, succeeding James Flagstaff Lane Diskin. The nomination also need to get approval from the Senate.
Dunford was born in Boston in 1955. He graduated from college after the army, served as the commander of the troops, of which the most famous is Command during the Iraq war in 2003's first U.S. ground forces into Iraq - Marine Corps Expedition under the Fifth group.
