Government Tuesday approved a plan, search teams to enter and explore New Zealand coal mine explosion three years ago, 29 miners were killed and buried.
But Energy and Resources Minister Simon Bridges says Pike River site recovery agencies the opportunity to remain slim.
This is because the program will get the team can only try to rockfall, they need to re-evaluate the condition. Experts believe the dead miners still dangerous, due to the high concentration of methane gas in an area beyond the rockfall.
Reentry program will cost 7.2 million New Zealand dollars ($ 5.6 million), beginning in October, will take at least six months. This will involve the mine seals and pumping nitrogen to prevent methane from renewed.
Landmine victim's family had been calling for government-funded body recovery operation.
Kath Monk, whose 23-year-old son Michael died in the accident, she said, "very excited" decision.
"This is what we've been working towards the past few months," she said.
Monk said the plan would allow the team to see if there are any remains of the rock in front of the fall, learning to understand what went wrong and conditions beyond the rockfall. She said families of the victims still hope that teams will eventually be able to search beyond the rockfall, recovery remains.
