Bharti Airtel, India's largest telecommunications company, said Thursday that fourth-quarter net profit fell by nearly half to 5.1 billion rupees ($ 94.7 million) higher taxes and operating costs.
The company said in January-March this fiscal year last quarter revenue rose 9.2% from a year earlier to 20.5 billion rupees (about $ 38 billion).
However, this quarter compared to the same period last year to 130 billion rupees ($ 24.8 million) to increase taxes and cut into profits, accounting for the steep decline in the same period last year about half.
Higher operating costs, including investment in network expansion, also contributed to the decline in earnings.
India's mobile phone company has several years of price wars, weakening earnings, but Batty said, the situation has eased in the latest quarter.
