91% bearings were at wrong location: JCI

The Joint Inspection Committee found that 91 per cent of the bearings were at an improper location and 81 per cent bearings had problems with top grout and 33 per cent bearings had problems with bottom grout.

Cracks in girder bottom were found at 37 locations at up to 70 per cent of the depth of the bottom slab. Some cracks were found at the top of the slab while some pedestals have cracked and at some other places girder corners have been damaged. There was no proper access for inspection of bearings, especially at some of the cantilever pier locations and damage to the ends of girders could have been caused by the concessionaire’s contractors for bonding.

“The track plinth, as per design, was required to be clear of expansion gap between girders. At a number of places the concrete from track plinth was found spilled over the pier caps. This was a result of improper shuttering used for track plinth at such places. Beside this, end of girders were found damaged possibly because of track bonding works. The civil contractor was required to leave inserts for track bonding. At some of the places these inserts were not kept or were stolen. At such places, the proper course of action would have been repair, but it was found that at a few places girders ends were found damaged,” the report said.
