Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB), a major supplier of lubricants in China, said that it opened the company's largest grease plant in China.
The grease plant, based in Zhuhai, a city in southern China, can produce 30,000 metric tons of grease a year, and can be expanded to 40,000 tons a year, the company said Friday in a news release.
Some of the grease will be used in high-speed trains, airplanes and racing cars, said Mark Gainsborough, executive vice president for Shell Global Commercial.
"By building Shell's largest grease plant in China, we are able to be closer to our customers," said Huibert Vigeveno, executive chairman of Shell in China. "China's lubricants demand, including that for grease, is growing fast."
Shell now has 18 grease plants worldwide, including 10 in Asia, the news release said.
