NSK Ltd. (NSK; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Norio Otsuka) yesterday announced that it has developed a new Linear Guide Series roller guide equipped with the X1 Seal for use in harsh environments where fine particulate contaminants are present. This product maintains high dust resistance over the long term and extends the service life of the machinery in particulate environments. It also suppresses grease leakage, which reduces the amount of grease used, enabling resource saving.
NSK will display the product at the 26th Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF 2012), to be held from Thursday, November 1 to Tuesday, November 6 at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto ward, Tokyo).
Development background
Among NSK linear motion guides, the roller guide is particularly rigid, with a high load capacity, and it is used for a wide range of applications, especially machine tools. NSK has developed the new NSK Linear Guide Series, including the Roller Guide Equipped with High-Performance Side Seals, which is optimized for machine tools used in harsh environments where fine particulate contaminants such as graphite and ceramic are present. Based on this highly dustproof side seal technology, the company aims to achieve even higher performance by developing the NSK Linear Motion Guide Series roller guide equipped with the X1 seal, which suppresses grease leakage and contributes to longer machinery life and resource saving.

1. Improved wear resistance of the seal
The newly developed X1 seal uses a new material and new shape to improve wear resistance by a factor of five compared with conventional side seals. This maintains high dustproof performance over the long term and contributes to longer machine life.
2. Improved grease retention performance
The amount of grease that leaks from the linear motion guide is reduced by two-thirds compared with conventional side seals, which reduces the amount of grease required and contributes to resource saving.Applications
