SAINT-GOBAIN TO SHOWCASE CUSTOMISED AUTOMOTIVE SOLUTIONS FOR FRICTION CONTROL AND(Pic)

May 11, 2012 – Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics will showcase its innovative range of NORGLIDE® composite bearings and RENCOL® tolerance rings at the Vehicle Dynamics Expo in Stuttgart, Germany, 12-14 June 2012 in Hall 1, booth V1165. Utilising a variety of applications for powertrain, chassis, and the interior and exterior of the vehicle, Saint-Gobain’s representatives at the booth will demonstrate how its composite bearings and tolerance rings can optimise component performance for the manufacturer and driving experience for the consumer.

Saint-Gobain’s RENCOL® tolerance rings are custom-developed for each application to enhance friction control, reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and enhance assembly efficiency for the manufacturer. Within the NORGLIDE® composite bearing the self-lubricating polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) liner controls friction between two moving parts, saving energy by facilitating movement and absorbing NVH before it is transmitted to other mechanisms.

At Vehicle Dynamics, Saint-Gobain will exhibit a number of its composite bearing and tolerance ring solutions for automobiles, including those for the steering yoke and the seat armrest. When used in the steering yoke, the NORGLIDE® composite bearing’s unique, thick PTFE layer reduces friction for improved steering feel and response for the driver whilst RENCOL® tolerance rings offer torque control for seat armrests to ensure they remain in the position required by the motorist contributing to the quality feel of the vehicle. Both components can be used in a number of automotive applications to optimise vehicle performance, driver experience and manufacturing processes.
