SRM Launch Campagnolo PowerMeter

(November 4, 2011)

SRM announce the launch of a Campagnolo PowerMeter, complete with a new aluminum PowerControl 7 head unit.

This latest model from SRM and Campagnolo adds to the ever-increasing selection of power meters now on the market, which was thriving during the 2011 season’s tradeshows.

Uli Schoberer, owner and founder of SRM, collaborated with the Campagnolo design team and engineers to develop a unique PowerMeter and crankset combination capable of delivering accurate and precise data while maintaining the superiority and classic aesthetics of the Campagnolo brand.

Campagnolo designed an Ultra Torque crank arm specifically for the SRM PowerMeter featuring an opening to access the retaining spring specific to Campy’s Ultra Torque bottom brackets. Campagnolo built the arms in 170mm, 172.5mm, and 175mm lenghts with a Q-Factor of 145.5mm. SRM claim a 779-786g weight for the new PowerMeter, depending on length, which includes crank, chainrings and bearings, but not bottom bracket bearing cups, Power Control 7 head unit or mounting periferals.

The Campagnolo PowerMeter sports the Italian manufacturer’s CULT (Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology) bearings to best match the Record and Super Record groups. The crank comes with Campagnolo’s X.P.S.S (Extreme Performance Shifting System) 11-speed chainrings guaranteeing performance with the manufacturer’s highest-level products.

The SRM Campagnolo PowerMeter has been race tested by the Team Omega Pharma-Lotto. The team trained and raced with the SRM Campagnolo PowerMeter, and contributed valuable data and feedback for final production. Philippe Gilbert and André Greipel, also, won several races including stages of the 2011 Tour de France riding the SRM Campagnolo PowerMeter.

The design team at SRM combined rider feedback with research and testing, resulting in an enhanced accuracy of ±1.5-percent, and improved strain gage design, circuit components and manufacturing process. SRM and Campagnolo will back the system with a three-year warranty for the cranks, bearings, PowerMeter, PowerControl, and batteries. SRM claims the battery life at 1,400 hours.

The complete SRM Campagnolo PowerMeter Training System purchase includes the unique PowerControl 7 Aluminum (PC7), made from 6061-aluminum, and all accessories (heart rate belt, speed sensor, multi-charger, download cable, handlebar mount, cadence magnet and SRM software); it cost US$4,945. The PowerMeter Only option, costs $3,995, and allows customers to pair the crank with other ANT+Sport™ compatible devices or for a second bike with a shared wireless PowerControl. The SRM Campagnolo PowerMeter is now available to pre-order through SRM; the cranks will begin shipping on 1 December.
