John Crane will be taking the opportunity at Power-Gen 2011 to emphasize the wide-ranging nature of the end-to-end shaft solutions that it offers to the world’s power generation industries. Those solutions help power industry operators extend availability, increase plant reliability and minimise energy usage, and with the backing of John Crane’s global customer support and service network they have been proven to deliver tangible benefits, time after time.
The John Crane stand will feature a system of self-selection screens which will allow visitors to explore the company’s extensive product range at will. That range extends far beyond mechanical sealing to include advanced bearing technologies, specialised filtration systems and power transmission couplings. This allows the company to provide comprehensive solutions that extend along the shaft-line and are designed to deliver a genuinely tailored answer to each individual customer.
Engineered Bearing Technology
Power-Gen will provide a showcase for John Crane’s advanced hydrodynamic bearing technology, which delivers reliable, cost-effective and robust shaft-line solutions for the power industry.
The product of over 60 years bearings experience, this John Crane technology offers fixed geometry journal bearings in both multilobe and cylindrical profiles, as well as single and compound taperland thrust bearings, to suit a range of applications. John Crane’s patented ADVANTAGE® technology is available for fixed geometry journal bearings to support lower bearing temperatures and increase load capacity.
High-speed rotor installations are also catered for by John Crane’s tilting pad journal and thrust bearings, which offer outstanding operational stability and high load-carrying capacities. Different design options are offered to accommodate a wide range of machinery applications. These include John Crane’s advanced OCI®, ADVANTAGE® and directed lubrication systems, optimised pivots and a choice of pad materials.
John Crane can also provide bespoke combined bearings to satisfy individual requirements, plus pedestal bearings for a comprehensive range of generator, motor and line shaft applications. Other complimentary products include hydrogen seals, temperature instrumentation, oil deflectors and labyrinths.
Specialist Filtration
Also displayed at Power-Gen will be John Crane’s specialised Indufil filtration systems. These are ideal for various rotating equipment fuel, fluid and gas conditioning applications and provide the very highest levels of performance and reliability while complying with a wide range of industry standards
Single and duplex filters designed for use with oils, liquid hydrocarbons and water are included in the range, along with coalescing filters designed to remove liquids from fuel gas and seal gas. The unique filter designs are complemented by a rugged, weld-free, and forged body construction that makes them suited to a very wide range of applications, especially as vents, drains; valves, ports; flanges and fittings can be configured to suit specific requirements. The filters are also supported by a range of associated products such as plate cooler systems and ball valves.
Continuous Development
Over recent years John Crane’s Metastream power transmission couplings have become the power industry’s coupling of choice. Continuous product development has allowed these couplings to satisfy power industry requirements for safety and reliability and that programme has now created the new Metastream M Series ZMH flexible membrane coupling. Specifically designed to withstand hot and humid cooling tower environments, the ZMH will be exhibited at Power-Gen alongside samples of the company’s H Series and T Series couplings. These also offer the same outstanding levels of performance and reliability while allowing the end-user to comply with the necessary industry standards.
Accurate alignment
John Crane’s highly accurate Lase-A-Lign EX™ measurement and alignment system will also feature on the stand. Lase-A-Lign EX™ is specifically intended for use on rotating equipment located in hazardous environments, which makes it suitable for a wide variety of power industry alignment tasks on turbines, compressors, motors, gearboxes and pumps.
Split Sealing Solutions
John Crane’s Type 3740 cartridge split seal will form a centre point for the company’s mechanical sealing display at Power-Gen. The Type 3740 enables both dry-running and wet-running applications to be served by a single seal design based on a common platform. This makes it ideally suited to various power industry applications as it is able to accommodate a wide range of different duties.
Displayed alongside the Type 3740 will be other John Crane seals which have all been proven in power industry applications around the globe. These include the heavy-duty Type 270F for high-pressure boiler feedwater pumps, the compact Type 3710 split seals for use on large pumps, the Type 37FS split seals for FGD side-entry agitators, plus the Type 5860 heavy-duty slurry seals and specialty seals for nuclear charging pump applications.
Global support
John Crane provides outstanding levels of customer support via its global network of 20 international manufacturing facilities, plus a service network which extends across more than 50 countries. This makes the company’s wealth of technical expertise and power industry experience easily and locally available to those customers, irrespective of their own location.
