Brammer UK, part of Europe’s leading supplier of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services, has confirmed its commitment to its growing customer base in Iceland with the formation of a dedicated Icelandic subsidiary.
Based in Reykjavik, Brammer Island ehf is geared to supporting Brammer’s existing Icelandic customers in the metals sector as well as developing new business at other large manufacturing facilities.
The Brammer Island ehf team is led by Michael Wallwork, who prior to joining Brammer in early 2010 spent more than 15 years in various senior management roles in engineering. With a Masters and Bachelors degree in Business Management and Aerospace Engineering, Michael held general management positions in Canada, Germany and the UK before relocating to Iceland.
The team will support Brammer’s existing contract with the Alcoa Aluminium Smelter on Iceland’s east coast. This relationship has recently been extended following the announcement of Brammer’s new European contract with Alcoa Inc.
Brammer is also providing a range of MRO products and on-site services to RioTinto Alcan’s aluminium smelting facility near to Reykjavik, complementing Brammer’s existing UK and Europe-wide contracts with this customer.
Brammer UK Managing Director Ian Ritchie explained: “With strong partnerships with large customers such as Alcoa and RioTinto Alcan, we have researched the wider market opportunity in Iceland and concluded that opening a dedicated subsidiary will provide a foundation from which we can develop new business with the many operations in the metals, power generation and food/ beverage sectors.
“Despite the recent challenging economic conditions in Iceland, all of these sectors are experiencing significant ongoing investment and we believe we are well positioned to provide this customer base with an innovative, added-value approach to MRO product and service provision which will support their productivity and competitiveness.”
