The Schaeffler Group Receives Two Supplier Awards from Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock

(May 3, 2011)

Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock has presented the Schaeffler Group with two supplier awards. Schaeffler Austria GmbH and Schaeffler Group Industrial’s Railway sector management received the awards in the top category of “Competitiveness in Mechanical Engineering” and in the “Logistics” category. A total of 271 companies among 10,000 suppliers were nominated, of which 21 made it to the final round and received an invitation to attend the “Our Stars for Mobility Rolling Stock” award ceremony in Berlin. As a winner, the Schaeffler Group is now a nominee for the company-wide Siemens Supplier Award, which is to be presented in November.

“I am very pleased and I am very proud of the fact we have received this award from Siemens for Schaeffler’s successful collaboration with the company in railway engineering during the last few years. We consider the award both as recognition for what we have already achieved and as a commitment for the future”, said Simone Purbs, Director of the Railway sector management at Schaeffler Group Industrial. Schaeffler was the only company to be nominated in three categories and it was the only company to receive awards in two categories. In the presence of Dr. Hans-Jörg Grundmann, Head of Siemens’ Mobility division, Siemens awarded prizes in a total of six categories: After Sales, Innovation, Logistics, Quality, Competitiveness in Electrical Engineering and Competitiveness in Mechanical Engineering. Nominations are made in each category for the five best suppliers who have proven themselves to be one step ahead of the competition due to their excellent performance.

The highest possible level of quality is essential for Siemens and Schaeffler to survive on the international market in the long term and to form enduring business relationships with customers. “To do so, we need partners like the Schaeffler Group who have the same high standards as us and who have a great deal of commitment to success”, explains Joern F. Sens, Director of Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock. The awards in the "Competitiveness in mechanical engineering” and “Logistics” categories prove that Schaeffler Austria and the Schaeffler Group’s Railway sector management fulfill these requirements due to their high standards of quality.

The Schaeffler Group and Siemens Mobility have a long-standing and successful partnership. Amongst other projects, the Schaeffler Group recently became development partner and sole supplier for the axlebox bearings in Velaro high-speed trains from Siemens that are used in China and Russia at speeds of up to 350 km/h. Other joint projects include the axle bearing supports for the Desiro RUS regional train, which will be put into operation for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sotchi, and axle bearing supports for locomotives such as for the Belgian Railways (SNCB), and in subway trains in Nuremberg and Oslo, for example.
