Timken Co. Chairman Ward J. ''Tim'' Timken Jr. is positioned to become board chairman of a nonprofit, regional economic development group.
Team NEO's board has elected Timken as its vice chairman, the development group said Monday.
Timken, chairman of Canton steel and bearings maker Timken Co., will take over as Team NEO chairman in June 2011.
Team NEO, which seeks to sell Northeast Ohio as a single market, was formed in 2003 by the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, the Greater Akron Chamber, the Stark Development Board, the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce, the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber and Cleveland Tomorrow.
The group's current chairman is Christopher M. Connor, chairman and CEO of Cleveland-based paintmaker Sherwin-Williams Co.
Earlier this year, Timken was appointed to serve on the U.S.
Manufacturing Council, which advises the U.S. Secretary of Commerce on matters that affect U.S. manufacturers.
Team NEO board members receive no compensation from the nonprofit.
