Tristar Plastics has supplied FCJ bearings for use in the manufacture of high-end transportation seating in specialty vehicles such as fire engines, tractors and long-haul trucks.
The suspension seats on these vehicles are often subjected to arduous conditions.
The seats tend to feature a scissor-lift mechanism that contains multiple pivot points to help drivers achieve an optimum ergonomic position for extended driving.
Before converting to FCJ bearings, Tristar said that many of its clients used an injection-moulded plastic or oil-impregnated bronze bearing.
These have lead to complaints about problems such as inconsistent tolerance and wear levels, or a frequent need for greasing.
Since converting to FCJ bearings, Tristar said that its clients have reported freer movement, enhanced durability, lower friction and extended wear of their vehicle seats.
The seats are custom designed with multiple pivot points that go up and down and back and forth for optimal height and lumbar support.
FCJs enable the seating platform to glide smoothly into place, without lubrication and without regular maintenance.
FCJ bearings absorb the shock and vibration of extreme road conditions so that drivers have a lower risk of back and body injury.
FCJ bearings can also be found on equipment at marinas, construction sites, mines and other demanding environments.
