Bearings provider SKF has signed a three-year contract worth around #8364;3.5m (£2.9m) with car-parts manufacturer Valeo to supply SKF rotor positioning bearings for the new i-Stars, Valeo’s stop-start system.

The i-Stars system automatically cuts off the vehicle’s engine when slowing down under 8kmh − for instance, when stopping for a red light − and enables a reduction in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption compared with the first-generation Stars.

The system will initially be used with both manual and automated manual transmissions to equip the new diesel engine range, e-HDi, for the Citroën and Peugeot brands.
