SKF India hosts ‘Meet the World’ Football Tournament in Pune

Pune Sports Academy ground on 7th May 2010 where 8 football teams from across India will compete in a playoff format. This is the second year, the prestigious event is being held in India.

The SKF Meet the World tournaments are a pre event to the Gothia Cup and widely acknowledged as one of most popular and well-known international youth football tournaments in the world. SKF expanded the Gothia Cup concept to a further twenty or so different countries by hosting local 'mini' tournaments' called Meet the World. Children from underprivileged backgrounds, who would otherwise not have the opportunity to play at the Gothia Cup in Sweden, are invited to take part in local tournaments. The winning team from each country is then sponsored by SKF to take part at the official Gothia Cup championship. This way, a greater number of youth will be able to join a global meeting place to get to know each other and play football. Learn how to win and lose and keep their heads high in adversity and success.

As the main sponsor of the Gothia Cup, SKF aims to create a meeting place for young people to meet across boundaries and develop respect for one another's cultures and differences.

"SKF India has over the years put continuous efforts into shaping young talent from under privileged sections of society in the arena of sports. We share the dream of the community to nurture young minds and encourage the children to go forward and be the best that they can be in any field and sports being one of them. SKF is committed to promoting sports and sponsors various programs around the world. In India we run a Sports Academy to train and support young talent in football, cricket and hockey", comments Shishir Joshipura, Managing Director, SKF India Ltd.

SKF India's 'Meet the World' tournament gives young players a window of opportunity to display their football talents. Under 18 players from underprivileged backgrounds in India are invited to register free of charge for the tournament.
