Condition Monitoring Device for Hazardous Areas

SKF has launched its latest field-mounted wireless condition monitoring measurement device, which is suitable for use in tough industrial environments where space is at a premium.

The Multilog WMx has been developed to provide a complete system for early fault detection and prevention, automatic advice for correcting existing or impending conditions and advanced condition-based maintenance to optimise machine reliability, availability and performance.

The system is intended to form one of the key components in advanced condition monitoring systems for maximising productivity and minimising machine downtime in a variety of industrial applications, according to the company.

The compact, battery-powered unit is claimed to increase personnel safety.

The Multilog WMx is an eight-channel device that communicates via industry-standard LAN wireless networks using existing computers, printers and servers.

It collects acceleration, velocity, displacement, temperature and bearing condition data and automatically uploads it for data analysis in SKF's Aptitude software programme.

As the Multilog WMx does not require any power cables, it is suitable for monitoring machines in areas that are inaccessible, difficult or dangerous to reach.

According to SKF, installation costs are less than those associated with traditional wired systems and implementation times are reduced.

The Multilog WMx carries an Atex Zone 2 certification, allowing it to be located in hazardous areas, such as pump farms.

The device can be relocated, providing flexibility for the monitoring of moving machine components where hard wiring is not possible, where machines are frequently moved within the facility or on temporary installations to track a suspect problem.

Available as a turnkey solution or as part of an SKF service contract, the Multilog WMx can be set up and ready to use quickly, particularly at sites that already use the company's Aptitude Monitoring Suite software.

The new device is fully compatible with other SKF portable and online hardware.
