Two months into 2010, it is apparent that executives in the power transmission/motion control industry are ready for action. After the turbulence in the economy for the past year, companies are seeking innovative programs that deliver ideas that can be implemented immediately. The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) is meeting that need with an innovative new program for the 2010 Canadian Conference.
Scheduled for June 3-5, 2010, at the Marriot Montréal Chteau Champlain in Montréal, Québec, the PTDA Canadian Conference has been retooled to help attendees make more connections, work together more efficiently to serve end users and continue innovating in the new economy. The changes to the 2010 program were driven by input from PTDA's Canadian distributor members, and enhance the networking and educational components of the event.
New Product Showcase Helps Channel Partners Connect
A product showcase has been added on June 3 to provide an additional opportunity for channel partners - both new and established - to meet in an informal format. Held during the Welcome Reception, the Product Showcase features table-top exhibits of new products from PTDA's manufacturer members. To learn more about the Product Showcase, visit www.ptda.org/ProductShowcase. Industry Panel on Distribution Channel Efficiencies
One of PTDA's five strategic goals is to champion manufacturers and distributors, operating in concert, to effectively and efficiently serve their mutual customers. Led by facilitator and former PTDA President Don Latham, Belterra Corporation, a panel of some of the industry's top executives will discuss the challenges and opportunities for improving the distributor/manufacturer-supplier relationship, concentrating on those factors that can improve the efficiency of the channel in serving the customer. Panelists Francois Arbique, KINECOR LP; Ali Moghadam, Canadian Bearings Ltd.; Dermot Strong, BC Bearing Engineers Ltd.; Randy Breaux, Baldor Electric Company; Sean Hickey, Lafert North America; Tom Karch, SKF Canada Limited; and Jos Sueters, Tsubaki of Canada Limited will explore how distributors and manufacturers can work together to streamline processes and reduce expenses in order to increase margins and profitability.
Roundtable Discussions on Creating a Culture of Innovation
Corporate planner Ryan Garrah will lead attendees through an interactive session that will help unleash the creativity needed to foster corporate innovation. In a short program followed by roundtable discussions, attendees will discover what they can achieve by stepping outside of their comfort zone and embracing new ideas.
Keynote Speakers on Conducting Business in the New Economy
Pierre Marc Johnson, former premier of Quebec, leads off the Canadian Conference with a keynote on Free Trade. Currently serving as Chief Negotiator of the Québec Government of Canada for EU free trade negotiations, Johnson is of counsel to the offices of Heenan Blaikie where he acts as lead counsel in commercial negotiations, international partnerships and foreign investment ventures.
Ken Wong of the Queen's School of Business will address Marketing & Your Next BIG Thing on Friday afternoon. Wong combines a review of the recent trends in the power transmission/motion control industry with lessons learned from other industries with common characteristics to present an "outsider's view" of the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.
Joe Ellers, author of The Sales Manager's Handbook and The Best Distribution Sales Book Ever, will give attendees all the tools they need to take sales management efforts to the next level. Ellers will cover setting goals that drive the right activities, creating the value proposition, using six major tools of the sales management professional, compensating for what you (really) want and developing a sales process that is easy on the manager and really helps the salesperson.
