Telescopic Pillars Target Industrial Automation

SKF has launched a range of telescopic pillars, the Telemag CPI, designed to be used in industrial automation systems, including workstations, assembly lines, packing stations and despatch areas.

The pillars are available as two- or three-section units and have been developed to enable work benches, tables or platforms to be automatically raised and lowered to provide an ergonomic working environment that complies with the latest health and safety legislations.

Each CPI telescopic pillar incorporates a 24V DC linear actuator integrated into the body of the base section to give smooth, accurate and easily controlled movement of the columns at operating speeds of between 0.6 and 1.86m/min under full load.

Control of the actuator can be provided by hand-, foot- or desk-mounted switches, with SKF also offering an encoder for applications that require greater levels of precision and repeatability.

Depending on the model and application, the pillars produce stroke lengths of between 200 and 700mm and are capable of withstanding high bending and offset loads.

For example, the three-section unit with a 700mm stroke will withstand 4,000N when applied directly above the pillar and up to 1,000N at a distance of 900mm from the centre of the unit.

In practice, this gives working heights of between 350 and 850mm, with each unit also being capable of delivering extremely high push and pull forces of up to 4,000N, enabling heavy loads to be controlled in complete safety.

The concept of the Telemag CPI range is to offer design and production engineers the optimum level of flexibility, with the ability to develop systems using multiple pillar units.

Typically, three or six Telemag CPI units can be integrated with a single controller to create large, stable and powerful workstations or production platforms that are easy to set up, operate and maintain.

The Telemag CPI units incorporate a standard T-slot in the outer section to allow ancillary devices to be fitted and a cable feed through, as well as lifetime monitoring sensors as an option.
