Nearly 800 former Timken Co. employees in Canton will qualify for federal job placement assistance, career counseling, occupational training and more.

The U.S. Department of Labor has approved ''Trade Adjustment Assistance'' for Timken workers who lost their jobs after July 1, 2008, in large part because Timken shifted work overseas, U.S. Rep. John Boccieri (D-Alliance) announced Monday.

The Timken workers made tapered roller bearings, alloy steel bars and seamless tubes.

To qualify for benefits, workers must comply with certain state and federal training and job search requirements.

The benefits also include additional weeks of income support, partial reimbursement for out-of-area job searches and most relocation expenses for workers who find jobs outside the local area.
