Reduced temperatures at the sealing lip, error-free installation and extended service life are all benefits of the new SKF unitized pinion seals for heavy-duty applications announced by SKF.
The company said the unitized pinion seal features a fluorelastomer sealing lip, capable of handling high operating temperatures of the pinion application. A patented Waveseal design sweeps oil back towards the bearing, allowing the seal to run cooler, SKF said. A half-metal, half-rubber ID allows heat to dissipate while maintaining a positive grip on the yoke surface, preventing leak path.
The seal contains an internal wear sleeve that provides an optional sealing interface and protects the shaft, according to SKF. The unitized design creates a one-piece installation, eliminating the need to stock or install wear sleeves, noted SKF, and contamination is controlled by an internal labyrinth design with multiple dirt lips.
