NSK's Molded Oil solid lubricant bearings are preventing premature bearing failure on an IHT conveyor at a UK milk processing plant - saving GBP9,992 a year.
The IHT conveyor contained inaccessible bearings that were impossible to lubricate.
As a result, engineers were changing bearings every 10 weeks, resulting in downtime, labour and equipment costs of GBP9,922 a year.
An engineer from NSK's Cost Savings Programme identified the problem to be water washout, which is common in food-processing applications.
Water washout is the tendency of lubricant to be flushed out of conventional bearings under repeated washdowns.
NSK's Molded Oil bearings employ a solid lubricant that eliminates this problem.
As such, it transforms the performance of machinery, in terms of reliability, maintenance-free intervals and operation, in environments exposed to high humidity, corrosion and contamination.
Molded Oil can increase the operating life of grease lubrication in water-contaminated environments.
It also ensures operating environments are kept free of grease and removes the need for lubricant refilling, as Molded Oil provides a continuous supply of lubricating oil.
NSK recommended F-UC206 Molded Oil bearing s to overcome the failure modes and changing the housings for the bearings to Silver-Lube units.
Silver-Lube mounted bearing units are designed for use in industries where hygiene considerations and corrosion and chemical resistance are important: typically bottling and brewing, food processing, pharmaceuticals, fisheries and chemical processing.
