With its newly developed Continuous Caster Bearing (CoCaB) Program, Schaeffler Group Industrial (INA/FAG) offers bearing solutions that are perfectly tailored to the requirements of continuous casting plants: full-complement FAG cylindrical roller bearings as well as open and sealed FAG-branded spherical roller bearings for strand guide rolls, and INA needle roller bearings for the rolls in the upper segments of continuous casting machines. Split FAG spherical roller bearings and split INA cylindrical roller bearings are available for installation in driven rolls. Special FAG bearing housings with circulating cooling water complete the bearing program. For several decades now, Schaeffler Group Industrial has been an expert in rolling bearing applications in plants which produce and form steel and non-ferrous metals.
Non-locating side
The newly developed FAG cylindrical roller bearing combines the advantages of full complement cylindrical roller bearings with the characteristics of spherical roller bearings. The standard non-locating bearing solutions usually provide only a compromise and could not optimally meet the high demands. Now, the new FAG cylindrical roller bearing for strand guide rolls offers a solution for the non-locating side that combines high radial load carrying capacity with axial displacement capability and the possibility of misalignment compensation. Moreover, the bearing can be mounted quickly and easily – the ideal non-locating bearing concept.
The FAG cylindrical roller bearing with corrosion protection was developed especially for use as a non-locating bearing in continuous casting plants and has proved its worth in numerous strand guide rolls of leading customers.
Locating side
FAG spherical roller bearings are recommended as the locating bearing in strand guide rolls, especially here where not only high thrust loads and misalignment but also high radial loads occur. Spherical roller bearings operate reliably even under the most arduous environmental conditions and extreme loads, while also compensating for shaft deflection and misalignment of bearing seats.
Thanks to the redesign of the internal construction, the spherical roller bearings now offer improved kinematics. Up to an outside diameter of 320 mm, the 240 and 241 series bearings have new sheet steel cages. The temperature-resistant split cage is particularly suited to withstand the extreme operating conditions in continuous casting plants.
Since the numerous spherical roller bearings in continuous casting plants require large amounts of lubricating grease, sealed versions have proved to be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative for such applications. Sealed bearings can reduce the grease volume over the entire bearings life cycle by up to 80 percent.
In addition to first-class bearing solutions, Schaeffler Group Industrial also offers as part of its Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) approach customer tailored services as well as application engineering concerning all aspects of the life cycle of rotating components.. Ranging from maintenance and quality assurance solutions all the way to rolling bearing reconditioning, the associated bearings services offered by the Schaeffler subsidiary F’IS (FAG Industrial Services) provide the customer with a complete CoCaB program.
