The Astro facility has earned Nadcap accreditation for its self-lubricating liner adhesive bonding process. Nadcap auditor, Performance Review Institute, awarded Astro a 12-month Nadcap certificate under the commodities classification of Composites (AC7118), specifically the subsection titled Prepreg/Adhesive Bonding/Resin Film Infusion. Astro received the certificate this summer.
NHBB is the first bearing company to earn Nadcap approval for its self-lubricating liner adhesive bonding process.
The PSI auditor spent three days working through a 64 page checklist and determined he needed to recommend only a few minor corrections.
"That's an excellent result, especially for the first audit," said Astro's Senior Quality Engineer Mike Fitzgerald.
The auditing process, according to Astro's manager of applications engineering, Paul O'Brien, is arduous, time-consuming and expensive, but well worth the effort. "The majority of our customers do not require us to hold this certificate, but they all recognize the value Nadcap-accredited facilities add to their supply chain," said Paul. "Nadcap validates the efficacy of our procedures and controls, instilling in our customers the utmost confidence in our ability to deliver a quality product."
The accreditation appears in the Online Qualified Manufacturers List at www.eauditnet.net, which is monitored by all major aerospace companies for potential selection of suppliers and awarding business. Astro also holds Nadcap certifications for Chemical Processing (AC7108), Heat Treating (AC7102), and Non Destructive Testing (AC7114).
