Since the SKF acquisition of SNFA, engineers from both companies have been working together to create a new, super-precision bearing assortment. The SKF-SNFA super-precision bearings will help original equipment manufacturers and end users to further optimize performance parameters of their equipment and applications. The benefits of this new assortment will differ depending on the bearing series and applications but includes higher speed and higher load ratings, extended bearing service life, increased maintenance intervals and reduced energy consumption.
Typical applications for the new generation bearings are; metal cutting & wood working machinery spindles, printing machinery, turbo chargers, vacuum pumps and racing cars.
The first product series will be launched in September 2008. All SKF and SNFA precision bearing designs will be replaced by the new generation of super-precision bearings within a few years.
Commenting about the new generation of super-precision bearings, Tom Johnstone, President and CEO of the SKF Group says: "SKF has brought all its own competences, including those in the acquired company SNFA, into this important project. The new bearings will provide improvements beyond the very high performance levels of the existing products and are designed to meet expected future demands by many customers and applications. Additionally, some of the ranges will have energy saving benefits that are becoming more important across all industries. We are uniquely positioned to work with our customer base even further combining our extensive manufacturing and applications knowledge in the areas of seals, lubrication, mechatronics and system design.
As evidenced by our recent acquisitions, and the establishment earlier this year of a machine tool competence centre in Stuttgart, Germany we have a special focus on the machine tool industry, and are committed to become a leading development partner to our customers in this industry."
