Barden Bearings, via parent Schaeffler Group (Germany, parent of INA/FAG bearings) has been benefiting from relatively wide ranging investment strategy.
Since its 1991 acquisition, Barden "now forms the nucleus of its Aircraft and Super Precision (ACSP) Division." The company has manufacturing facilities in Schweinfurt, Germany; Stratford, Canada; Winsted Precision Ball in Connecticut; and Barden U.K.
The Barden U.K. subsidiary has now completed a two-year USD $15 million capital investment program. Located in Eastover, it produces high precision ball bearings, primarily for instrument, electronics, defense and aerospace applications. Approximately 1,000 different bearings are in production there.
One high-profile contract example held by Barden U.K. is for the latest Trent series of aircraft engines from Rolls-Royce.
Schaeffler's investment in Barden U.K. was aided by grants from the Southwest England Regional Development Agency, Selective Finance for Investment program.
Additional equipment was added for high-precision ID and OD grinding, as well as general engineering, assembly and quality control.
Graham Stirling, Barden Managing Director, said: "With the new investment, we're now leading the way in design and precision that is fundamentally tailored to the customer requirement. The new technology enables us to be even more flexible to customer demand and reinforce our position as market leaders."
